FIBER, GLP-1 & SATIETY

GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) is a naturally occurring hormone that stimulates insulin secretion and may suppress appetite. It is often referred to as the satiety hormone. Dietary fiber not only provides satiety but also may increase naturally occurring GLP-1.

CONSUMERS, GLP-1 & SATIETY

With consumers still struggling with weight, there is growing interest in GLP-1 solutions—for natural GLP-1 enhancement and support both while on GLP-1 medication and post-usage. There are different reasons why consumers are interested in GLP-1 solutions:

  • People want to support GLP-1 naturally for satiety
  • People are currently taking GLP-1 medication and want to support their digestive health (Gastrointestinal discomfort is the most common side effect of GLP-1 drugs since they slow down both gastric emptying and transit time1)
  • People want to support satiety and maintain weight loss after reducing or stopping GLP-1 medication usage

GLP-1 OPPORTUNITIES

GLP-1 usage creates moments—during and after usage—where consumers need support on their weight management journeys, prioritizing certain areas of their diet: nutrient density, protein and dietary fiber.

During GLP-1 medication usage, consumers need to focus on muscle mass retention, minimizing GI discomfort and hydration. After usage, consumers still need satiety support and help in weight regain management.

Dietary fiber can help support consumers in these moments by providing satiety.

FIBERSOL® DEMONSTRATES SATIETY BENEFITS

Fibersol®, a digestion-resistant soluble dietary fiber, is advantageous during GLP-1 usage and post-GLP-1 usage because it may support satiety and increase naturally occurring GLP-1.

A clinical study has shown 10g of Fibersol® with a meal delayed hunger, stimulated appetite-regulating hormones and increased GLP-1 as a part of a normal physiological response in healthy individuals.5

At 10g with a meal, Fibersol®:

  • May delay hunger and stimulate appetite-regulating hormones
  • May delay hunger and stimulate appetite-regulating hormones GLP-1 and PYY
  • May increase satiety perception
  • May increase appetite-regulating hormone GLP-1 when consumed at 10g with a meal in healthy individuals

The FIBERSOL® ADVANTAGE

Fibersol® can also support metabolic health as studies have shown that Fibersol® reduces blood glucose and insulin response following a meal in healthy adults. At 4-6g of Fibersol® with each meal, clinical studies have shown that Fibersol®:

  • Helps reduce blood sugar levels/minimize blood sugar spikes after a meal that are within the normal range in healthy individuals
  • Helps reduce blood insulin response/the rise in blood insulin after a meal that are within the normal range in healthy individuals

In addition to the beneficial effects on GLP-1, satiety and blood sugar, Fibersol® provides other positive wellness impacts:

FIBERSOL®: THE PROBLEM-SOLVER

The satiety, GLP-1 and nutritional benefits of Fibersol® can easily be added to GLP-1 companion products. The low-viscosity soluble prebiotic dietary fiber not only adds nutritional appeal but is also known to enhance positive taste and texture attributes. Fibersol® has been found to balance the flavor profile and improve acceptability of proteins, zero-calorie sweeteners and other ingredients that possess harsh bitter notes.

Fibersol® itself is low in sugar. This is advantageous for formulating reduced sugar foods and beverages that support GLP-1 users. Because it contains very few simple sugars, Fibersol® can:

  • Help support label claims of low-/reduced-sugar; no sugar added; sugar-free; and no-/reduced calories
